We will also walk you through the selection process, including scheduling, delivery, and installation of purchased items.
We encourage you to bring your garden's measurements and pictures or videos of your space. In addition, note the amount of sun/shade you have in each section of the garden, this will help our team better understand what will work well for your garden and provide the best direction we can. In-store advice and plant layout are free services you can expect at either the Red Hook or Williamsburg locations.

At-Home Consultations
If you need or prefer us to take on your project, one of our experienced garden designers will meet with you at your residence for an initial consultation to discuss your project and assess your space. This consultation typically lasts one hour.
There is a nonrefundable $295.00 fee. During this consultation, we will outline your goals and objectives and produce a written cost estimate based on that scope of work. The timeline from consultation to estimate is typically one week.

Drawings & Renderings
If you elect to move forward with Chelsea on your project, know that our team can produce hand-drawn or computer generated renderings. These documents are often required by building boards or requested by our clients so that the project is fully outlined and presented graphically for better visualization.
Drawings and renderings start at a minimum fee of $595.00, depending on their complexity. After agreeing on the project scope and cost of your design, a 50% deposit is required. Once the program is complete the remaining balance of the project must be paid in full at completion.

Hardscaping
Our craftsman has expertise in stonework, carpentry, intricate material handling, and the delivery and installation of fresh sod, artificial turf, and irrigation systems. We can build custom garden carpentry, pergolas, arbors and trellises as well as install pedestal pavers, modular decking, and landscape lighting.
Gardens We've Built
Lo's Garden
Chelsea was tasked with turning an overgrown backyard property into an outdoor space that could function as a living garden room for dining and entertainment. Once a budget was established, concept and inspiration drawings were exchanged which led to the design that you see executed here. Chelsea hand crafted the fencing out of cedar, the pergola was constructed out of pressure treated pine and stained a dark brown. The client selected redbrick laid out in a herringbone pattern for the patio. Teak furniture rounded out the completed project; the plantings and fountain were icing on the cake.

Designing for Privacy
The drawing below provides an example of our design presentation process. The planter layout in this instance was approved but instead of the trellised Japanese red maples, the client opted for the evergreen magnolias pictured. We provide a detailed design drawing utilizing a pallet of diverse plant options. This space was particularly challenging from a design perspective as there are multiple structural columns to work around. In addition, our clients wanted privacy from the surrounding apartments.

Hiding an AC Unit
Tasked with hiding a new AC unit on a small outdoor terrace, Chelsea's craftsman made the the framed screen pictured, adding a mixture of wispy Scotch Brooms in fiberglass planters for the sunny side of the deck and shade tolerant tropical plants to soften the easy living feel of the deck.

Pedestal Pavers

Garden Renovation
The designers directive was to bring lush greenery into the garden following major home renovation work. A must have was the planting of a Japanese maple to recall fond memories of the owners childhood. Additionally, they wanted a garden that their growing family would enjoy for years to come. They required incorporation of plants previously purchased with placement and arrangement focused on window sight lines. Given that the owners still had a kitchen buildout and dining area to complete, we were asked to leave one side of the garden free of planting beds. In short, there will be a phase two to complete the garden plantings.

Transforming a Rooftop
This client contacted Chelsea Garden Center to spruce up an underused rooftop in the back of their house with the goal of having an outdoor living space to be used on warm and sunny days from spring to fall that also provided privacy.

Creating Front Patio Privacy
This client wanted privacy on their front patio with a variety of texture and color. Chelsea's team created a privacy screen out of skip laurels and mixed planters.

Shade Garden
The client's directive was to brighten this shade garden yet maintain its tranquility. Given the limited in-ground planting space to work with, we turned to an understated planter theme utilizing variegated plants to brighten up the garden. Additionally, we added white marble chips to liven up the deep shade. Many times, less is more. In this instance, this was indeed the case.

Rain Garden
This backyard had drainage problems that needed remediating. In consultation with the client, we installed this curved rain garden which solved the drainage issue and provided a fresh look. Given the industrial feel of the existing fencing, we extended the planting as shown and installed a beautiful sod lawn for their pre teen children to play on. Separately, the clients asked that we improve the planting on their terrace garden. Since the mural was the focal point, our designer elected to mimic the theme with the custom color of the fiberglass planters.
