Vibrant Container Design
This southwest-facing Chelsea terrace was designed as a vibrant outdoor retreat that could flourish in full sun and withstand the challenging winds common to New York City rooftops. Inspired by the client's love of bright, showy color, the planting palette combines chartreuse foliage with layers of pink, purple, and blue blooms for season-long interest.
Completed over two phases, the project began with the installation of our in-stock, Campania premium fiberglass planters. Before being filled the following spring with carefully selected sun and wind tolerant plants, creating a dynamic garden that continues to evolve with each season.

The Art of Plant Selection
Plant Features
This plant palette balances texture, seasonal interest, and resilience, with each variety chosen for its specific role within the design. For example, while much of the terrace receives full sun, a Hydrangea was intentionally placed in a more sheltered area where it could thrive while adding softness, structure, and seasonal beauty. Featured plants include:

- Cotinus 'Winecraft Gold'® (Smoke Tree)
- Rhododendron ‘Catawbiense Boursault’
- Acer palmatum 'Sango Kaku’ (Coral Bark Japanese Maple)
- Stachys 'Helen von Stein' (Lamb's Ears)
- Prunus × cistena (Purple Sand-Cherry)
