Manager/Truck Dispatcher
Ideally, you have logistics experience in dispatching and scheduling multiple trucks and crews. Chelsea Garden Center operates two retail garden centers in Brooklyn, providing delivery and installation services across Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens. This position requires superior customer service skills, as you will be scheduling deliveries and installations for both our retail locations in addition to our commercial design-build portfolio. A background in the nursery industry would be helpful but is not essential. We are seeking only serious-minded, career-oriented candidates to join our management staff.
This is a full-time managerial position with room for growth.
Position Overview
- Arrange busy and ever-changing daily calendars to schedule truck crews
- Field heavy phone call and email volume
- Liaison with store managers and designers to keep team members up to date on scheduling
- Track sold items set aside and confirm that all orders are complete and ready for delivery
- Schedule delivery and installation services with clients using multiple trucks
- Schedule our in-house garden designers installations
- Schedule movement of merchandise between stores to optimize inventory and the transfer of goods
- Maintain work orders and receipts from deliveries and installations and update work orders on completion
- Must maintain accurate electronic records of all scheduling and billing for inter office exchange
- Set up tool and material inventory lists for each truck as a guideline for daily usage
- Set up a periodic maintenance schedule so that our vehicles are regularly checked for safety and fluid levels
- You must be fluent in Excel, Word, Google Drive
- Knowledge of NYC streets and traffic patterns
- Strong general administrative and customer service skills
- Set up and maintain weekly truck crew schedules for a staff of four to six (4-6)
- Assist with store set up and receiving daily deliveries as time permits
- Ability to take initiative and exceed client expectations
- Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment
Health Insurance: After an initial ninety (90) days of full-time employment, which is the designated waiting period, Chelsea will pay fifty (50%) of your health care premium in the Healthfirst Gold Pro Plus EPO.
Compensation: Our salary offerings are based on each applicant’s individual qualifications and experience. We understand the high cost of living in New York and offer highly competitive starting wages.
Horticultural Buyer/Manager
- Purchasing and pricing of all houseplants for two (2) retail locations, in-house garden designers, and our design/build division
- Purchasing and pricing of annuals for two (2) retail locations, in-house garden designers, and our design/build division
- Purchasing and pricing of seeds, bulbs, pumpkins, poinsettias, and holiday greens for two (2) retail locations
- Purchasing for and monitoring of the Chelsea Garden Center online Shopify store
Assist in managing our Williamsburg Garden Center with:
- Daily opening and closing of the garden center
- Compiling and emailing weekly payroll reports to our main office

Overseeing a staff of 8-10 employees and delegating projects on a daily basis to ensure that all plant materials, inside and out, are properly cared for, the garden center is merchandised, shelves
are fully stocked with required product, and overall appearance is easy and enjoyable to shop - Receiving and helping to unload daily deliveries, ensuring that all materials are priced and properly merchandised, displayed, or stored
- Working closely with our salespeople and operations manager to ensure that all scheduled deliveries and installations for the following day are in order and ready to be loaded onto our trucks in the morning.
Travel: One or two times per year to trade shows and nursery tours
Salary will be commensurate with experience. Health insurance and 401K benefits available.

Social Media & Marketing Manager
Chelsea Garden Center is looking to hire a passionate plant lover with experience in social media content creation and digital marketing. Candidates will be responsible for maintaining, cultivating, and growing Chelsea Garden Center’s current social media audience of over 28k followers, with the ultimate goal of converting those followers into paying in-store/online customers.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Planning and creating social media content for Chelsea Garden Center’s Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter profiles
- Planning and creating email blasts through MailChimp
Secondary Responsibilities include:
- Planning and creating Google, Facebooks, and Instagram ad campaigns
- Planning and creating Instagram Stories
- Updating Shopify website with fresh and seasonal content
- Responding to customer questions/comments from social media profiles, and online contact forms
Tertiary Responsibilities include:
- Assisting retail staff with helping customers, answering phones, maintaining plants, etc.
Skills Needed:
- A passion to learn about plants and urban gardening
- Familiarity with photo editing software
- Comfort with Hootsuite or similar social media planning/management tools
- Comfort/familiarity with MailChimp
- Comfort photographing or recording video on smartphone or digital camera for use as social content
Not required, but a plus:
- Background in graphic design, marketing, social media, or copywriting
- Prior plant/gardening experience
- Familiarity with photography
- Familiarity with HTML programming
- Familiarity with Shopify

Garden Center Manager
Green industry leader seeks garden center manager with a minimum of three years of experience. Consider building your career with Chelsea Garden Center. We are a dedicated group of plant enthusiasts in business over 38 years. We operate two retail garden centers in Brooklyn, along with providing design build installation services. This position will only be filled by a candidate who has had green industry management experience. We offer our employees growth opportunities through diligence and consistent work ethic.
This key position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a busy urban garden center. Candidate will be responsible for opening and closing, setting employee scheduling, oversight of shipping and receiving, coordination of displays with staff, and liaising with designers and dispatcher to prepare orders for planting crew pick up. In addition, you will submit daily and weekly sales and employee reports to management.

Garden Designer
Chelsea is expanding its design sales team. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in landscape design and urban plantings. A minimum of three years experience in garden design/sales is preferred, along with a proficiency in computer-generated design. The successful candidate will follow their designs from inception through installation. A portfolio of your work and resume can be forwarded to the underwriter.

Gardener
Chelsea Garden Center seeks experienced, professional, motivated, and responsible individuals to perform urban landscape planting projects. Candidate must have knowledge of landscape practices and plant materials, be able to lift 50 pounds, work in all weather conditions, and have good organizational skills. This person must be able to work a project from start to finish while working as a team player. Candidate must have a valid driver’s license with the ability to drive a standard van or manual light duty truck. Knowledge of spoken and written English is required.

Horticulture Sales Associate
Chelsea Garden Center is seeking knowledgeable, professional, and friendly sales staff for our Williamsburg, Brooklyn and Red Hook, Brooklyn locations. Our garden centers are stocked with a broad selection of top quality nursery stock, trees/shrubs, tropical plants, containers, and a full array of dry goods for the urban gardener. Landscape Gardener with Carpentry & Masonry Experience

Estimator/Project Manager
This key position is responsible for bidding, estimating, sales, and project management. Candidate will be responsible for scheduling equipment, materials, and work crews required for the installation of commercial and residential landscape projects of all sizes. The successful candidate will attend site and client meetings and liaison with architects and construction managers. Successful candidate must track job costs, submit monthly requisitions, certified payrolls, write proposals, and follow multiple projects through to completion and final billing.
