Merchandise Assistant
Start Date: March 2025
Established in 1984, Chelsea Garden Center seeks an Inventory Coordinator/Merchandise Assistant. Candidates must be proficient in data entry and have basic POS inventory tracking and product development knowledge. Broad horticultural expertise or a background in landscaping and garden design is not mandatory but will be prioritized in our reviewing process. We seek a well-organized self-starter who can update digital stock tracking daily. This individual will assist in inputting and updating SKUs in our POS system alongside our web manager and buying team. Additionally, during our busiest season, this individual will be expected to help assist in daily nursery duties in their free time.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the daily operational functions and help the buying team manage the overall merchandise flow.
- Responsible for partnering with the Buyer on all necessary tasks.
- Answer all emails promptly and in an organized fashion.
- POS / Website Stock Management.
- Ability to update product stock and information daily.
- Assist Web Manager in updating the Shopify website with the latest products, images, and quantities.
- Report findings to leadership, and work alongside buyers to set stock price.
- Work closely with managers & leadership to address stock trends or low-stock issues.
- Manage and maintain Shopify and Email pictures.
ROLE QUALIFICATION
- Must exhibit strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Detail oriented.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment with a sense of urgency.
- Ability to prioritize projects and handle multiple tasks.
- Must demonstrate creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
- A rudimentary understanding of retail math.
- 1-2 Years of retail experience or internship.
- Strong plant knowledge.
- Extensive experience with Shopify (or similar POS) back-end platforms.
- Technical expertise to update preexisting items on a digital POS system.
- Ability to use vendor purchase order information to upload new SKUs / products.
- Proficiency in data entry and clerical organization.
- Well-organized with a sharp attention to detail.

Garden Center Sales Associate
Start Date: March 2025
Established in 1984 Chelsea Garden Center operates two Brooklyn, NY garden centers. We specialize in the design, delivery, and installation, of both residential and commercial landscapes. We have a diversified portfolio of work from residential to large scale commercial projects of every description.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Help set up and open store daily which consists of rolling display carts and feature plant displays.
- Interact with customers and help them with plant selections and gardening advise.
- Our garden centers are shopper friendly retail environments; you must love working with people.
- This position requires the ability to lift 60lbs, work outdoors in inclement weather occasionally.
- Help in unloading fresh nursery and flower shipments, help load outgoing orders onto our trucks.
- Help maintain bedding plants and nursery stock displays as required.
- Pricing of new plant material as required.
- Ensure that incoming plants are free of insects and disease and notify a manager of any issues.
- Knowledge of our products including trees, shrubs, topicals, annuals and perennials a plus.
- Assisting customers with all aspects of the garden center products, primarily the right plant fit.
- If you have cashiering experience and strong customer service phone skills, please tell us.
ROLE QUALIFICATION
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in horticulture and or the garden center nursery environment.
- Available to work weekend days in the height of the season, then alternating weekend schedule.
- Knowledge of all types of trees, shrubs, perennials, and landscaping material.
- Knowledge of plant disease and plant insect control.

LANDSCAPE Designer/Salesperson
Start Date: March 2025

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- This is a full-time position for an individual with a landscape design/architecture background.
- Sell landscape projects by closely working with clients to meet their goals & budget.
- Provide inspirational landscape design from initial client contact through managed maintenance.
- You will be responsible for the design & sale of landscapes and gardens including pavers, decking, planter boxes, plants, low voltage lighting, and irrigation systems in an urban setting.
- Generate follow-up maintenance & planting service contracts to maintain your installed gardens.
- You will be onsite to assist our gardening teams with your design implementation & plantings.
- Create design drawings, specifications, and material lists to prepare and coordinate planting.
- You will be the primary contact with the client overseeing your project from inception.
- Help grow & promote your book of clients by prospecting & networking for new clients.
- Network with management firms, real estate agents, developers & professionals to seek new clients. Build relationships with a range of key business contacts to fill your book of sales.
- Prepare plant & materials lists for our buyers to coordinate assembling your design/installation.
- Deliver high quality projects on time and on budget.
ROLE QUALIFICATION
- College degree in landscape design/architecture, engineering, or project management preferred.
- Non degree candidates will be considered based on a minimum of 3-6 years’ experience.
- You must be able to work independently & in conjunction with our installation teams.
- A current NY Driver’s license with clean driving record is a plus.
- It is essential that all site conditions, project concerns are clearly communicated to management.
- Possess a working knowledge of mechanical, masonry, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.
- You have experience with urban design/build, rooftop construction methods.

Landscape Laborer
Start Date: March 2025
Established in 1984 Chelsea Garden Center operates two (2) Brooklyn, NY garden centers. We specialize in the design, delivery, and installation, of both residential and commercial landscapes. We have a diversified portfolio of work from residential to large scale commercial projects of every description.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Loading the days plants and materials at the start of each day onto your assigned truck.
- Maintain your installation tools and equipment & make sure that you are equipped for the day.
- Review work orders & job instructions with the garden designer and or your supervisor.
- Take care to install all plantings as directed in an efficient and timely manner.
- All planting installations must be watered after plantings.
- Jobsites must be left broom clean, immaculate.
- You will be responsible to return your paperwork for processing.
- Company garments are always worn and provided.
- You must be punctual and reliable to join our team.
- This position requires the ability to lift 60lbs, work outdoors in inclement weather occasionally.
- Experience in all types of planting, carpentry, irrigation, and masonry a plus.
- A clean NYS driving record is a must if you are also applying to drive.
- Our trucks range from light duty cube trucks to delivery vans and site trucks.
- Past landscape experience and knowledge of trees, shrubs, annuals, and perennials required.
