Polemonium 'Stairway to Heaven' (Jacob's Ladder)
Bred by Bill Cullina of the New England Wildflower Society, this woodland gem brings lasting beauty to partially shaded gardens. ‘Stairway to Heaven’ forms a dense, tidy clump of deep green foliage edged in crisp white — a striking variegation that stays bright and clean all season long.
In early spring, the foliage emerges with strong upright stems that rise above the clump, bearing clusters of deep purple-blue, bell-shaped flowers from April into May. These blooms not only add a soft, vertical accent but also serve as an important nectar source for native bees and butterflies.
A long-lived, easy-to-grow perennial, Jacob’s Ladder thrives in part shade with moist, well-drained soil. Mass it at the front of borders or along woodland edges for a graceful, dependable display that returns year after year. Native.
