Pride's Corner
Lindera benzoin (Northern Spicebush)
Every American Beauties garden deserves a spot for this versatile, low-maintenance native. Oval-shaped and upright in form, Spicebush is ideal for grouping as a natural screen or backdrop, especially in shady, moist areas where other plants may struggle.
In early spring, before the aromatic foliage emerges, clusters of tiny yellow-green flowers provide an important nectar source for native bees and butterflies. Come fall, bright red berries become a magnet for both local and migratory birds — a true wildlife buffet. And to top it all off, vibrant yellow fall foliage lights up the garden with seasonal color.
