Dicentra spectabilis (Old Fashioned Bleeding Heart) is a hardy, shade-loving perennial that produces arching stems of heart-shaped pink and white flowers in late spring. Reaching 3 feet tall, it thrives in moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. It is deer-resistant, goes dormant in summer heat, and is excellent for woodland gardens.
