Asimina triloba (Pawpaw)
Asimina triloba is a true North American native and a standout of our Native Plant Collection. This understory tree produces large, creamy, banana-like fruit that’s as unique as it is delicious. In late April to early May, its deep brownish-purple flowers appear before the leaves, attracting early pollinators. With its showy flowers, native roots, and ecological benefits, this tree brings color, pollinator support, and a living story of the eastern forests right to your garden.
Pawpaw Perk: Pawpaw is the exclusive host plant for the Zebra Swallowtail butterfly, making it a key contributor to local ecosystems.
Forest Flavor: Pawpaw fruit doesn’t store or ship well, making it a rare treat. When you enjoy it, it was grown locally and harvested recently, giving you truly fresh, homegrown fruit.
