Glover Perennials
Allium schoenoprasum (Chives)
Chives are one of those plants that earn their keep, offering attractive blooms for the garden and plenty of fresh flavor for the kitchen. Hollow, slender leaves grow to 10" tall and have a mild onion flavor perfect for salads, soups, dips, and more. Charming purple buds open to rosy-pink flower clusters in June and July atop stems reaching 18" tall, attracting butterflies and hummingbirds while adding a color to herb gardens, vegetable beds, and containers.
Both the leaves and flowers are edible, making chives a favorite for gardeners who like their plants to work a little overtime. Full sun and well-drained soil. Deer resistant. Readily self-sows and naturalizes.
