The Venus Flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) is a carnivorous plant native to a small region of coastal North and South Carolina, where it grows naturally in nutrient poor, acidic bogs and wetlands. Its hinged traps snap shut when triggered by small insects, helping the plant supplement the limited nutrients in its soil. Give it bright, direct light, consistently moist soil, and distilled or rainwater.

Fun fact: despite its exotic appearance, its natural range is only about 75 miles from north to south!
