Community Outreach

community-outreachChelsea Garden Center is committed to helping New Yorkers enjoy the best of the garden – no matter how small or large the space, be it private or public.

To this end we have developed a program of giving back to the community that has, for more than two decades, given us its support.

Community Organizations

New York Restoration ProjectNYRP
Chelsea Garden Center is a proud sponsor of the New York Restoration Project – an organization dedicated to reclaiming underserved land and rendering it a beautiful and usable public space that enhances the spirit as well as the being. Throughout the year we donate plant material and a portion of proceeds from special sales and events to NYRP.

Council On The EnvironmentCENYC
We proudly donate materials and plants to the Council on the Environment of New York City, which promotes environmental awareness, and solutions to environmental problems throughout New York.

Green GuerillasGreen Guerillas
Chelsea Garden supports the local nonprofit organization Green Guerillas, which has been a key facilitator and advocate for community gardens and grassroots groups throughout the New York City area. We provide plant material and other donations to the Green Guerillas year-round, and we encourage New Yorkers to contact the Green Guerillas to become involved with a community garden in their area.

Friends of the HighlineFriends of the High Line
Chelsea has been an advocate and supporter of the Highline project since its inception. This is a park like no other, one story above the ground providing a bounty of new vistas and a wonderful use of a long disused railroad right of way.

Friends of Roosevelt Park/GreenLife Program
This year Chelsea Garden Center will work with the Friends of Roosevelt Park organization and its affiliate program, GreenLife (in association with Brandeis High School). The GreenLife program gives high school horticulture students practical experience in the horticultural world; they perform hands-on planting tasks at Roosevelt Park, and also spend time at commercial and professional horticultural businesses like Chelsea Garden Center, in order to learn about the responsibilities and career paths available in the horticultural field. We eagerly look forward to our partnership with this outstanding organization.

Chelsea Garden Center supports the growth of the city’s young gardeners and offers classroom time to teachers and special project administrators. During these sessions a professional horticulturalist from Chelsea Garden Center discusses the land usage of the City, NYRP, the parks and museums. Practical, hands-on demonstrations help children understand the importance and the practicality, as well as the beauty, of planting and maintaining green space outdoors and in.
