The Montmorency cherry is a flowering and fruiting cherry tree that bountifully produces large, bright red cherries. It is the most popular cherry tree in the United States, as it is low maintenance and one of the few that is likely to fruit in the first year of growth. In the spring, the Montmorency cherry produces fragrant white flowers that are not only beautiful but attract all kinds of garden-friendly pollinators and birds. The flowers give way to summer fruit, which is uniquely tart fruit and can be harvested in July for use in a variety of summer recipes - from pies and tarts, to jams, preserves, and juices. As this is a self-fruiting or "self-seeding" variety of cherry tree, planting a second nearby will increase harvest sizes.
The Montmorency cherry tree can tolerate a range of soil types. For best results, plant in full sun. The trees we have in stock today are 7'-8' in height and will grow to 12'-15' at maturity.
